Congratulations to Dr. Ivan Minev on Receiving an ERC Starting Grant of 1.5 million EUR

Dr. Ivan Minev, research group leader from the BIOTEC and Freigeist-Fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation, has been distinguished with a prestigious and highly competitive European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant of 1.5 million EUR for his research project "Integrated Implant Technology for Multimodal Brain Interfaces (IntegraBrain)".

Dr. Minev has been research group leader at BIOTEC since 2016. The cfaed contributed a lot to bringing Dr. Minev to Dresden. From July 2016 until December 2018, the cluster has been financing a postdoctoral position through the BAC and BIO paths which has been very conctructive in introducing Dr. Minev in both paths and become an important partner for the newly applied projects in the second phase of the Excellence Initiative.

Project

The project team headed by Dr. Minev aims to establish neuroprosthetic implants for the brain in several "languages". Besides its electrical functionalities, the brain is treated also as a chemical, thermal and optical machine.

Bio

Ivan Minev received the MSci degree in Physics from Imperial College London in 2008. He obtained the PhD degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cambridge in 2012. From 2012 to 2016 he was post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Neuroprosthetics in EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. He has co-organized several symposia on the topic of soft bioelectronics as part of the Materials Research Society Spring Meetings in San Francisco and Phoenix. In 2016, Ivan received the Freigeist fellowship from the Volkswagen Stiftung and is now leading the “Electronic Tissue Technologies” group at TU Dresden’s BIOTEC center.
