Lecture Series: Mobility 4 Future - On the Way Towards Climate-friendly Mobility

"How does transport become sustainable?" In the summer term 2021, the new lecture series -- "Mobility4Future - On the way towards climate-friendly mobility" -- will highlight answers to this question and will be guided by national and international experts. Our transport systems need to be transformed urgently: The transport sector is a major contributor to human-made climate change and is considered to be the cause of many ecological, economic and health problems, not least due to persistently high CO2 emissions, particle pollution or congestion. A growing world population and increasing urbanization make these problems more severe. Which means of transport we will use in the future, how and on which routes, whether we will be guided by algorithms and how much mobility and travel will cost: shaping the mobility of the future comes with many challenges.
This is where our lecture series comes in. Scientists will provide an interdisciplinary overview of the variety of research areas related to mobility - from sociology to technology development, infrastructure planning and digitization to environmental and economic aspects. The event is part of the studium generale and is also open to TU Dresden students and employees as well as the interested public.
On April 14, Prof. Udo Becker and Dr. Falk Richter from the Chair of Transport Ecology at the Faculty of Transport Sciences "Friedrich List" of the TU Dresden will kick off the event. They will define the term "climate-neutral transport" and discuss which aspects need to be taken into account. The events to follow will include presentations by international speakers from Oxford University, the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics in Paris, Delft University and ETH Zurich, among others. The topics will range from necessary changes in politics and administration, possible solutions for increasing the efficiency (and effectiveness) of motorized transport, and cycling as a climate-friendly and health-promoting alternative to the car-based transport.
The event is jointly organized by Prof. Marc Timme from the Chair of Network Dynamics at the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) and the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Prof. Regine Gerike, Chair of Integrated Traffic Planning and Road Traffic Engineering. Both already organized the faculty colloquium "Transport Sciences as an Interdisciplinary Domain: Projects, Findings, Perspectives" in the winter semester 2020/21, which met with a lively interest across institutes and disciplines.
The events of the lecture series take place (for the time being) as online events via ZOOM, starting on April 14, 2021, on Wednesdays 4:40 to 6:10 p.m.; further information and registration via the website www.mobility4future.org
Mobility 4 Future – auf dem Weg zu klimaverträglicher Mobilität
Ringvorlesung im studium generale startet im Sommersemester 2021
„Wie wird Verkehr zukunftsfähig?“ Die neue Ringvorlesung „Mobility4Future – Auf dem Weg zu klimaverträglicher Mobilität“ im Sommersemester 2021 beleuchtet mit nationalen und internationalen Expert:innen Antworten auf diese Frage.
Eine Transformation unserer Verkehrssysteme ist dringend notwendig: Der Transportsektor trägt stark zum menschengemachten Klimawandel bei und gilt als Verursacher vieler ökologischer, ökonomischer und gesundheitlicher Problemen, z. B. durch anhaltend hohe CO2-Emissionen, Partikelbelastung oder Stau. Hinzu kommen eine stetig wachsende Weltbevölkerung und die fortschreitende Urbanisierung. Welche Transportmittel wir wie und auf welchen Wegen in Zukunft nutzen, ob uns Algorithmen dabei steuern und wie viel Fortbewegung und reisen kosten werden – die Mobilität der Zukunft zu gestalten, ist mit vielen Herausforderungen verbunden.
Hier setzt die Ringvorlesung an. Ab dem 14. April, mittwochs zwischen 16:40 bis 18:10 Uhr, geben Wissenschaftler:innen auf Deutsch bzw. Englisch einen fachübergreifenden Überblick über die Vielfalt der Forschungsbereiche rund um Mobilität – von der Soziologie über Technologieentwicklung, Infrastrukturplanung und Digitalisierung bis hin zu Umwelt- und Wirtschaftsaspekten. Die Veranstaltung ist Teil vom studium generale und auch für TU-Mitarbeitende sowie für externe Interessierte offen.
Den Anfang machen am 14. April Prof. Udo Becker und Dr. Falk Richter vom Lehrstuhl für Verkehrsökologie an der Fakultät Verkehrswissenschaften „Friedrich List“ der TU Dresden. Sie definieren den Begriff des „klimaneutralen Verkehrs“ und diskutieren, welche Aspekte dabei zu berücksichtigen sind. Es folgen Vorträge u. a. von internationalen Referent:innen der Oxford University, vom Centre for European studies and comparative politics in Paris, der Delft University und der ETH Zürich. Dabei geht es z. B. um notwendige Änderungen in Politik und Verwaltung, Lösungsmöglichkeiten für eine Effizienzsteigerung beim motorisierten Verkehr oder dem Fahrradfahren als eine klimafreundliche und gesundheitsfördernde Alternative zum Auto.
Die Veranstaltung wird gemeinsam verantwortet von Prof. Marc Timme vom Lehrstuhl für Netzwerk-Dynamik am Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) und am Institut für Theoretische Physik sowie von Prof.in Regine Gerike, Lehrstuhl für Integrierte Verkehrsplanung und Straßenverkehrstechnik. Beide organisierten bereits im Wintersemester 2020/21 das Fakultätskolloquium „Verkehrswissenschaften als interdisziplinäre Domäne: Projekte, Erkenntnisse, Perspektiven“, welches auf ein regen instituts- und disziplinübergreifenden Interesses stieß.
