On 5 July, at 9.30 am, Prof. Jan M. Rabaey, University of California at Berkeley, will give a guest lecture titled “The Innovation is in the Mind – The Converging Trajectories of IT, Neuro and Nano”. The lecture will be held at the Heinz-Schönfeld-Hörsaal in the Barkhausenbuilding, Georg-Schumann-Straße 11.
The deeper understanding of the operation of the brain may lead to novel architectures and models for nanoscale information-processing systems. Computational paradigms inspired by neural information processing hence may lead to energy-efficient, low-cost, dense and reliable implementations of the functions the brain excels.
Professor Rabaey received his Ph.D. degree in Applied Sciences from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium in 1983. In 1987, he joined the faculty of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at UC Berkeley. He is currently the Scientific Co-Director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), as well as the director of the Multiscale Systems Research Center (MuSyC).
On 11 July, at 1.00 pm, we will welcome Prof. Valeriu Beiu, United Arab Emirates University, UAE. The question is: “Why Biology Can and Silicon Can’t? - The Brain and the Computer”. The lecture will take place at TU Dresden, Hallwachsstraße 3, Seminar Room 115.
One week later, on 18 July 2013, at 2.00 pm, Prof. Dimitry Basov, University of California, San Diego, USA, will explain the “Infrared nano-scopy of complex materials”(HZDR, Bautzner Landstraße 400, Hörsaal 106/255).
On the same day, at 3.00 pm, Prof. Joanne Atlee, University of Waterloo, Canada, will talk about “Feature Interactions: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (TU Dresden, Helmholtzstr. 18, Barkhausenbuilding BAR 205).
Currently, the last scheduled At 23 July, 13.00, Prof. Ken Salem, also from the University of Waterloo in Canada, will focus on “High Availability for Cloud-Hosted Database Systems” (TU Dresden, Nöthnitzer Str. 46, NOE 3105).
