The European Research Council (ERC) is funding three research projects by young scientists at TU Dresden. Amongst them is research group leader Dr. Renhao Dong from cfaed's Chair for Molecular Functional Materials headed by Prof. Xinliang Feng. Starting 2020, Dr. Dong will receive the ERC Starting Grant of almost 1.5 million euros for his project C2DMOF - Development of Functional Conjugated Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Frameworks over a period of five years.

A warm welcome to Prof Yana Vaynzof who heads the Chair for Emerging Electronic Technologies! This is a new cfaed Open Topic Professorship created in 2019 within the Institute of Applied Physics and the Research Cluster cfaed – Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden. The research focus is on the analysis, development and optimization of novel solar cell technologies. Using a spectroscopic measurement method developed by Prof. Vaynzof, it is possible to map the energy landscape inside solar cells with a resolution in the nanometer range and over time. This makes it easier to identify energy losses and find more efficient solar cell architectures.

Scientists at the Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) at TU Dresden have succeeded in synthesizing sheet-like 2D polymers by a bottom-up process for the first time. A novel synthetic reaction route was developed for this purpose. The 2D polymers consist of only a few single atomic layers and, due to their very special properties, are a promising material for use in electronic components and systems of a new generation. The research result is a collaborative work of several groups at TU Dresden and the Ulm University and was published this week in two related articles in the scientific journals "Nature Chemistry" and "Nature Communications".

Dr. Nicolas Lorente from "Centro de Física de Materiales Centro Mixto CSIC-UPV/EHU" and "Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC)" joins cfaed in September 2019 as a TU Dresden Senior Fellow. He is hosted by cfaed Research Group Leader Dr. Francesca Moresco. His research interest focuses on quantum phenomena on surfaces.
On Wednesday, 18 September 2019, he will give a guest lecture about "Weakly-bound supramolecular structures: calculations for understanding experiments with the scanning tunneling microscope". The lecture is open to the public.
Time: 13:00 - 14:00; Location: TU Dresden, Barkhausenbau, room BAR I88, Georg-Schumann-Str. 11, 01187 Dresden

The next Scientific Area Network (SAN) by DRESDEN-concept will take place on 20 August at 5 p.m. in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden. The SAN features an interdisciplinary perspective on the "Dynamics of Complex Networks" and looks at natural, technical as well as social networks from an scientific perspective. 18 presentations of 5 minutes each will present networks in a wide variety of scientific fields and thus encourage interdisciplinary exchange. In particular, scientific insights into multi-layered networks ("systems of systems") in the research fields of biology and neurology, social sciences, and the humanities as well as supply infrastructure (energy, water and transport) will be enabled. Prof. Marc Timme and Dr. Malte Schröder from our Chair for Network Dynamics will give an introduction to this complex topic.
