The new cfaed building is being filled – Francesca Moresco’s Research Group last week occupied the new office and laboratory spaces in the Barkhausen Building at TUD Campus. The new location enables the cluster to bring together the previously scattered research groups and encourages the interdisciplinary approach of the cluster. We heartily welcome all the relocated cfaed scientists and wish them a productive collaborative work – from now on, consolidated and under one roof.

Today, Dr. Matthias Haß, Minister of Finance, and Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, Minister of Science, handed over the keys to the cfaed Cluster of Excellence facilities in the Barkhausen building to the Rector of TU Dresden, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen. The opening of the new TU Dresden building enables the cluster to bring together a large number of researchers in one location. The design of the office spaces and the highly sophisticated laboratories not only creates a single space for collaborative research, but the new building itself is located in the immediate vicinity of the Andreas-Pfitzmann building, the Hermann-Krone building and the adjacent institutes and departments that are of crucial importance to the cfaed. The Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering as well as the School of Science have their main facilities right next door. Interdisciplinary research requires physical proximity and effective communication: this is precisely what the new building offers to cfaed.

Dr. Ivan Minev, research group leader from the BIOTEC and Freigeist-Fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation, has been distinguished with a prestigious and highly competitive European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant of 1.5 million EUR for his research project "Integrated Implant Technology for Multimodal Brain Interfaces (IntegraBrain)".
Dr. Minev has been research group leader at BIOTEC since 2016. The cfaed contributed a lot to bringing Dr. Minev to Dresden. From July 2016 until December 2018, the cluster has been financing a postdoctoral position through the BAC and BIO paths which has been very conctructive in introducing Dr. Minev in both paths and become an important partner for the newly applied projects in the second phase of the Excellence Initiative.
The cfaed is very happy to congratulate Dr. Ivan Minev on this success!
