We keep our fingers crossed: Under the supervision of cfaed research group leader Dr. Thorsten-Lars Schmidt, twelve master students from TU Dresden will take part in the annual Harvard Biomolecular Design Competition (BIOMOD) in Boston on November, 1. The interdisciplinary team ‘Dresden DNAmics’ uses the DNA-Origami-technique to create a nanometer-sized photonic circuit with the helices of the genetic code carrier and gold nanoparticles. “The target of our project is the production of plasmonic waveguides,” the biochemist Leon Bichmann of the ‘Dresden DNAmic’ Team explains.

The Helmholtz Virtual Institute MEMRIOX VH-VI-422 (MEMory effects in Resistive Ion-beam modified OXides) successfully passed the mid-term evaluation. A commission of experts has assessed the research in the Virtual Institute to be very successful and declared their support for further funding until September 2016.

The Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) has in focus the realization of a strong vision - the ‘Tactile Internet’. Therefore, the initiative ‘5G Lab Germany’ has been opened on 24 september at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD). Within the 5G Lab, 20 TUD professors have started to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team with more than 500 scientists to advance the research concerning the key technologies for the 5th generation of mobile communications and its applications.
