Our Biological Algorithms Research Group Leader Dr. Benjamin Friedrich was selected as a "TUD Young Investigator"! Now he is one of currently 17 TUD scientists having this special status. The "TUD Young Investigator" status strengthens independent junior research group leaders by fostering their integration into the faculties and offering a qualification programme tailored to their particular needs. The status is awarded for a limited time and includes some special rights being normally reserved for professors.

TUD's Freigeist group from Physical Chemistry and the cfaed Biological Algorithms Group are jointly organizing a summer school on microswimmers in 2017. This summer school will be devoted to an active exchange of knowledge in the area of fabrication, observation, manipulation, simulation and application of different kinds of microswimmers. This will include an unusual format combining lab trainings and theoretical fundamentals. In fact, this will be the first international summer school on the emerging field of microswimmers that combines hands-on practical education in the lab with theory lectures on motion at the microscale. This format will benefit interdisciplinary researchers and enhance communication skills across disciplines. The summer school will take place from 13-19 August 2017 in Dresden. More details available here.

A work from our Resilience Research Path on "SGXBounds: Memory Safety for Shielded Execution" has been awarded the best paper award at EuroSys'17 -- a top conference in computer systems. SGXBounds proposes an efficient technique to achieve memory safety for shielded execution. Memory safety is the most critical property for ensuring software reliability, and security. Surprisingly, SGXBounds beats the state-of-the-art software AddressSanitizer from Google, and Intel MPX hardware ISA extensions for memory safety!

In April 21st, 2017, cfaed's Orchestration Research Path Leader Prof. Jeronimo Castrillon was selected as a member of the ACM Future of Computing Academy (FCA), a new initiative by ACM to support and foster the next generation of computing professionals. Over 300 applicants from academia and industry applied to become members of this inaugural class of the ACM FCA. A selected group of 45 members will meet for the first time in San Francisco, USA, on June 25, after attending the ACM’s celebration of 50 years of the ACM Turing Award on June 23 - 24 at the Westin St. Francis. To the ACM FCA, Prof. Castrillon will contribute his vision of the future of computing systems with a cfaed perspective. We are very proud of being part of the ACM FCA and are looking forward to see how it develops.
