Fantastic news from the start-up floor: HETEROMERGE is among the three winners of the TUClab startup contest 2022! The founder teams of HETEROMERGE, Plasmotion and ReViSalt prevailed with their business concepts at the 5th "TUClab Competition" of the Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) on October 14, 2022. The winners get access to start-up funding from Sächsische Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbh (SBG). A maximum of 900,000 EUR in total is available for the three companies. In addition, there is access to the infrastructure of the TU Chemnitz or selected transfer partners as well as integration into transfer and mentoring networks of the university.

Once a year, BASF Schwarzheide GmbH selects outstanding scientific works from TU Dresden focusing on sustainability, circular economy or digitalization. One out of three prizes in 2022, endowed with 1,500 Euros, was awarded to David-Maximilian Storch from the Chair of Network Dynamics. His dissertation entitled "Statistical Physics of Urban Mobility" sheds new light on the complex dynamics of modern digital and shared mobility services. The work in particular uncovered how adoption of ride-sharing may be promoted, thus improving more sustainable transport through cleverly using digitization.

Approximately thirty thousand people die every day from cancer worldwide. What is known as “immunotherapy” is increasingly becoming the scientific focus in the fight against the disease. Together with her team, Dr. Larysa Baraban, physicist at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is researching a chip that should ultimately make it possible to develop customized cancer immunotherapies. Her efforts are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) for five years through an ERC Consolidator Grant totaling nearly two million euros.

Turning it downside up: Novel, network-dynamic planning approach for urban bike path infrastructure enables demand-driven design of cycling networks by reversing the usual approach. The new concept could improve the bike-friendliness of cities - and thus their sustainability and climate footprint.In surveys, a large majority of respondents usually agree that cycling can make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gases and to sustainable transport, especially in densely populated areas. In contrast, for many countries in reality there is a large gap between desired and actual numbers. In Germany, for example, only 20% of the short-distance of everyday trips in residential environments are covered by bicycle.

Andrés Goens, a former member of the CC Chair (2014-2021), has been awarded the “Cloud & Heat Dissertationspreis” for his thesis “Improving Model-based Software Synthesis”. Andrés’ thesis encompasses much of his work at the CC Chair, including 25 different co-authored publications during his PhD research time at the chair. As the title suggests, it deals with model-based software synthesis, one of the main areas of research at our chair. The Cloud & Heat prize is awarded to outstanding doctoral dissertation work at TU Dresden.
